Giuseppe Fallacara on Digital Stereotomy
Giuseppe Fallacara is an architect and full professor in architectural design at the Polytechnic University of Bari where he leads the New Fundamentals Research Group. He focuses his research on stereotomy, a construction technique based on stone that suffered from the 20th-century diffusion of concrete and steel. I interviewed him to understand more about this technique, which could play a central role in the sustainable development of our cities thanks to digital tools and parametric architecture.

The most ambitious project in the history of communication design
The Pioneer 10 is the first man-made object we sent outside our solar system. It holds the most ambitious visual communication project ever conceived by a human mind: a message to extraterrestrial life. The authors are Carl Sagan, Frank Drake and Linda Salzman, who carried out this incredible project just three weeks to go before launch. In this article, I explain the design problems and the decisions made by the authors to solve them.

Design as Art by Bruno Munari
Munari is a giant of 20th-century Italian design, a figure of incredible depth who helped define the role of the designer as we know it today. Design as Art, originally published in 1966, is probably not his most important book, but it represents an interesting journey through his thoughts. It is useful for young people aspiring to a design career as well as for experienced designers who want to improve the communication of their projects.

Digital Quarantine featured on the De Agostini Atlas of Contemporary Art
I designed the digital quarantine series in 2020 to sublimate the uncertainty of isolation that we all shared, but that each of us has experienced differently. Like many of us, I feel how the widespread use of digital tools influences and distorts our daily lives. That’s why I’m happy to see this particular work on a volume that represents the contemporaneity of the Italian art and design scene. The book, now published by De Agostini, is the longest-running yearbook of Italian art.
