I am excited to share that Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore, the landart environmental conservation project I started in 2017 with the Next Association, is a candidate for the 2022 national census of FAI, the Italian Environmental Fund. Tre Piscine Cove of the Heart is located at the foot of Capo Zafferano on the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily, and it is a natural gem just a few kilometres from Palermo. Despite its potential, this unique location has been abandoned and lacks essential measures for protection, enhancement, and safe access. We urge you to vote for Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore on the FAI website and help us preserve and enjoy this special place.

Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore: One of the most beautiful rocky coasts in Northern Sicily.

Nestled at the foot of Capo Zafferano lies Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore, a stunning rocky coast known for its picturesque sea access. Located in Bagheria and Santa Flavia in Palermo, this coastal area boasts three small bays with calm, green-blue waters, which have earned it the nickname “Tre Piscine”.

For generations, people have enjoyed soaking up the sun on the rocky seabed, which gradually slopes to about ten meters, making it an ideal spot for snorkelling and diving. The limestone cliff, which towers up to fifteen meters, protects the cove from winds on three sides, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Above the cove, the aeolian dunes form a beautiful Mediterranean landscape, bursting with vibrant colours that change with the seasons.

Despite being a natural paradise, this unique place has been abandoned for years, with no proper measures in place for protection, enhancement, or safe access. We can take action to preserve and elevate Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore by voting for it on the FAI website. Join us in our mission to safeguard this treasure for future generations.  See the beauty of the place in this video made by Maurizio Durante:

Some issues of the Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore area

The coastal territory of Bagheria and Santa Flavia, including the area of Tre Piscine Cala del Cuore, is, unfortunately, facing several issues due to the lack of protection. Some issues are minor, such as the absence of signage to provide directions and information about the importance of preserving this unique spot. Others are more severe and affect the safety and accessibility of the whole area.

The path leading to the cove is obstructed by walls, stairs, and mud, making it challenging for people with mobility impairments to access the area. The concrete paths near the cliff are over 40 years old, and many steps have been broken, while erosion caused by the sea has made some areas even more hazardous. Additionally, the lack of safety fences and signs makes it difficult to identify areas that may collapse, posing a significant risk to visitors.

Littering is yet another problem, as some individuals fail to take their waste with them, detracting from the natural beauty of the location. Finally, upstream of the Eolian dunes, there is a significant accumulation of waste of unknown origin that requires further investigation to verify the absence of hazardous materials.

It is time to take action and ensure that this beautiful place gets the attention it deserves.

Cast Your Vote for Tre Piscine Cove of the Heart in the FAI Places of the Heart Census

Tre Piscine Cove of the Heart is a hidden gem in Bagheria and Santa Flavia, but it faces significant challenges due to the lack of protection and valorization. Together with the Next Association, we are working to revitalize the area and make it accessible and safe for everyone. By voting for Tre Piscine in the Italian Environment Fund census on the official FAI website, you can help us secure the protection and preservation of this stunning location for generations to come.
